Pierre Morel

Ambassador Pierre Morel is the EU Special Representative for Central Asia, appointed by the Council of the EU on 5 October 2006. He began his diplomatic career in the French MFA in 1971, serving among others at the French Embassy in Moscow, at the Office of the President of the Republic, and as Ambassador at the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva.
He served as Ambassador to the Russian Federation (1992-96) -also accredited to Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Mongolia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan -then as Ambassador to China (1996-2002) and to the Holy See (2002-05). He was EUSR for the crisis in Georgia from September 2008 to August 2011. Amb. Morel is an Officer in the Legion of Honour and Commander in the National Order of Merit. He published a number of articles on international affairs.
